Batman, Barbie, and Firemen OH MY!!!

So I may have over committed myself this past weekend, but I guess I got excited about decorating after a Christmas lull. I made a Batman cake, Batman cookies, 4 dozen fire themed cupcakes, 2 jumbo cupcakes, and a Barbie cake. I was exhausted, but very pleased how everything came out and that it was DONE!!! Please don't let me accept more than 2 orders at once. AHHH!

White cake (batter bowl, 8" round, and jumbo cupcake flipped upside down) with white icing and full size Barbie inside. It was fun making a shaped cake like this that I actually had to build.

4 dozen fire themed cupcakes. Half are white and half chocolate. All with butter cream icing and fondant decorations. I fell in love with these and almost didn't want to give them up. Awww.....

Twin brothers celebrated their birthdays so they got special fire hat cupcakes with their names on them. Happy Birthday Boys!!!

Baby Ella is Here

Jaime's little girl Ella was born 2 days early but Jaime was not complaining. :) Sis Julie took this treat to her to share in the excitement. Congrats Jaime and Jason!

Spiderman and Spiders

Last year Jeremy wanted a scary dinosaur cake and this year it was Spiderman. Definitely a BOY!! The HUGE cake and cupcakes were yellow chocolate chip with buttercream icing. I really liked how the spider cupcakes turned out.

Happy Birthday Grant!! My little boy Grant turned two and we had a train to celebrate his actual birthday. I think the adults had more fun with the candy than the kids did. The cupcakes were the new favorite, chocolate chip with buttercream icing. Happy Birthday Buddy!

The Veggie Tales are back and this time it was for my own kid's birthdays. Hannah celebrated her Fourth birthday and Grant his Second birthday. The party was at Pump It Up so we had to have a bouncer cake complete with Veggie Tales friends. The bouncer cake was chocolate chip, a new flavor that got rave reviews and the bottom cake was plain old chocolate. It was iced with buttercream and the characters were made out of fondant.

So, Jaime let me try out my skills on her wedding cake a year and a half ago and now I got to make a baby shower cake for her. This design with the pregnant mamma on top was inspired by another bakery, The Pink Cake Box. They make beautiful cakes and I wanted to give it a shot. It is a white cake with buttercream icicng and fondant decorations.

This cake was for one of my sister's co-workers. She's expecting a boy so I tried to take the boy colors and the designs from the napkin and incorporate them in the cake. This cake had one vanilla layer and one chocolate layer inside. My sister said it was a hit and pleased both vanilla and chocolate lovers.

It's time for Joshua and Caleb to celebrate their birthdays again this year. Last year they had the Veggie Tales cakes. This year it was Hot Wheels for a 4 year old and 2 year old. We celebrated at a nearby park so the car track was moved to a more scenic drive. White cake with buttercream icing and a fondant track. Happy Birthday Boys!!

One of my favorite treats...CARAMEL APPLES!!!! I hadn't ever made them before but I have consumed many for research. :) These were for the childcare workers/volunteers that help take care of the kids at my MOPS group. I hoped that they enjoyed them.

I had two race car projects. The first was for my newest brother-in-law who is a Jeff Gordon fan. He turned 26, hence the "26 laps complete" sign. His cupcakes were red velvet with buttercream icing.

My next project was for a younger race car fan who turned 5. The cookies were party favors for his friends that celebrated with him.

Not quite big enough for most weddings but definitely large enough for a shower. This wedding shower cake included the wedding colors, black and red, and was a white cake with raspberry filling. The bride and grooms initials adorned the top.

My husband's sister Jennie got married over the weekend. It was a fun and busy event, especially with all of us participating in the wedding. Hannah was a great flowergirl and loved dancing at the reception. Grant was a typical 18 month old little boy that had other things in mind besides posing for pictures and walking down an isle. He survived and we did too. I didn't make the cake for the wedding because of all the other events that were going on, but I did make one for a gathering on Thursday night before the wedding. They sent out save the date magnets a while back and I copied one of the pics, altered the wording a bit, and added a teal border to include one of the wedding colors. It was a white cake with raspberry filling. They liked it and the rest of the family did too.

Two Little Monkeys

This cake was for two "monkey" brothers who celebrated their birthdays together. I hadn't done this much fondant decoration on one cake before. It was a lot of fun sculpting the monkeys and making the bananas. The leaves gave me some trouble staying attached. They were quite heavy when assembled all together for a buttercream cake. In the end they cooperated for the celebration.

Mother's Day Bouquet

This cupcake bouquet was a special delivery for my husband's grandma "Nana." She was the first one to recieve this treat. They were white cupcakes with buttercream icing. The top cupcakes stood upright just fine, but the bottom ones around the middle obeyed gravity and fell off. I'll have to figure out how to keep them all on if anyone else is going to get one. It sure was cute when it stayed assembled. Maybe mini-cupcakes would work better?

Cookie Fun

I had lots of fun trying out a new cookie and icing recipe. They turned out cute and very delicious. The "May flowers" and sunshines went to our home group for snack and the cookie bouquet went to another family in our group that just welcomed a baby boy.

Elmo strikes again!!! I think this is my fourth round with Elmo. This time it was cupcakes for twins Rachel and Julia's 2nd birthday. Rachel's cupcakes were chocolate and Julia's were yellow, both with buttercream icing. Happy Birthday Girls!!

My sister-in-law J is getting married in June so we had a shower for her this weekend. I told her that I would be a little busy being in the wedding with the rest of my family to do her wedding cake, so here's a sweet shower cake for her. It is white cake with buttercream icing and pink fondant decorations.

This was my third 3-tier cake and probably my last for awhile. It took about 15 hours to complete this masterpiece. My full-time job, as Mommy, would only let me take a few hours off during business hours so this one took me late into the night. It is a white cake with buttercream icing and fondant decorations.

My husband Matt turned 30 this year and we surprised him with a party in his honor. He didn't have a clue that our quick stop by his parent's house was a party for him. I baked the cake at our house and the smell factor didn't tip him off because I baked a pecan pie to cover up the cake smell. It worked and he happily ate the pecan pie while I saved the secret cake for the party. Hannah helped him blow out all the candles.

So I said I would do a practice one several months before the date to see if it was something I could do. Here's the very first bouquet. I made it for my sister and took it to her office for a surprise. It surprised me though, because the cookies started falling off the sticks. They were a little too soft in the middle. She still enjoyed it and she got to be my guinea pig, as all good sisters should.

My mother-in-law and father-in-law have the same birthday so I got to make them one big cake. It's a house that is on fire from all the candles with people screaming from the windows, "help" "fire." I tried to make each person as a likeness to one of the kids and grandkids in the family. It was my first attempt at a tiered cake with no idea on how to do it. I used a plastic container turned upside down for my top tier, again, had no idea how to do it and we didn't need that much cake. It was fun to experiment with royal icing flowers and other decorations.
